GiGi Gorgeous Kicks Off Trans Awareness Week With A Bang

Brunch on a beautiful sunday morning with friends is exactly what the doctor ordered, and that’s what trans leader and Youtube star GiGi Gorgeous did!

In her latest video “KiKi with Gigi Gorgeous”, she sits down with friends Sarah Mcbride (Human Rights Campaign National Press Secretary), Kingsley (Youtuber), EJ Johnson (E Television Personality), and Andrja Pejic (Fashion Model).

In the video GiGi kicks off National Trans Awarness Week, which is a pretty big deal in our community.  We have come along way but still have such a long road to travel with the fight for our trans brothers and sisters.  They disscussed everything under the sun – from their first time/kiss, to coming out, to what pronouns they prefer.
But the two hardest hitting questions asked were these: “What was the defining moment when you knew you were gay or trans?” Sarah’s answer was a touching one as she expressed, “The defining moment in my life was finding love with my husband, who is a transgender man.”  The second was: “Multiple countries in the Middle East don’t allow LGBTQ immigration travel – how have immigration laws  affected your ability to travel?” Gigi shared that she isn’t allowed in Dubai, and if she touched Dubai soil she’d be arrested because she’s transgender.  Previously, she flew in and was detained at the airport for several hours before being escorted on a flight back to the States.

They ended the video with a message saying where they would love to see the LGBT community in the next 5 years.  So, I figured I’d leave you all with mine.  I would love to see more equality laws passed both in the States and overseas. I would love for people to actually get to know myself and my LGBTQ brothers and sisters before they judge us.  I want to see more LGBTQ people on television and in movies, showing our frightened youth all over that there are people out there that are just like them – people they can look up to.  I want to see fewer trans women of color being senselessly killed. That’s the world I want.

And like I always say; Be who you are, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind!

Supreme Court allows transgender military ban as the legal battle continues

Today, the Supreme Court of the United States has allowed President Donald Trump’s transgender military ban to go into effect; a ban that is both cruel and irrational to our community.

The policy was first announced by President Trump in July 2017 via Twitter. Since, the ban has faced legal battles in lower courts, resulting in nationwide injunctions prohibiting its implementation. SCOTUS’s decision today allows the ban to go into effect while the court decides whether to consider the merits of the case.
