Accessibility
Last updated: March 5, 2026
Gayborhood Travel is committed to making our destination guides and travel intelligence accessible to everyone, regardless of ability or disability. Inclusivity isn't just our mission for travel — it's how we build.
Our Standards
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA level. This means we work to ensure that our Site is:
- Perceivable — Content is presented in ways that all users can perceive, including alt text for images and proper color contrast.
- Operable — All functionality is available from a keyboard, and navigation is consistent and predictable.
- Understandable — Text is readable and the Site behaves in predictable ways.
- Robust — Content is compatible with assistive technologies including screen readers.
What We've Done
- Semantic HTML5 structure with proper heading hierarchy.
- Alt text on all editorial images.
- Keyboard-navigable interactive elements (tabs, filters, accordions).
- Sufficient color contrast ratios for body text and interactive elements.
- Responsive design that works across screen sizes and zoom levels.
- No auto-playing media or content that flashes.
Known Limitations
We're continuously improving. Current known limitations include:
- Some decorative hero images use CSS backgrounds without text alternatives — we're working to add descriptive ARIA labels.
- Index page card images are CSS backgrounds that are not exposed to screen readers — a fix is planned.
- Color-coded safety scores also include text labels, but we plan to add additional pattern-based indicators.
